One of my biggest regrets when it came to the purchasing of our new home was the decisions we made with our furniture. Why I say this is because we didn’t do enough research into the products we were buying or what our style really was. At the time all that really mattered was the $$. From experience, pay a little extra for quality with the big furniture that will be sticking around for the long haul, it’s worth it! We did happen to replace our dining room table, we really did love that table and it was perfect for starting out but other the years the leather on the chairs was beginning to rip and the paint was beginning to chip (the boys in my life are hard on everything). So recently we replaced our old dining room set for a new table and chairs from Leon’s. While trying to decide on the right table and chairs to fit my style and home, I did so much Pinteresting. It’s tough when you love so many different styles, but sometimes its good to collect a few inspiration photos and pick out the similarities between each of them. Along with this advice, I have a few Tips to Help Choose the Perfect Dining Table for Your Home from defining your style to fit for purpose, all which you can view over at Hello Yellow Blog or in our digital mag Hello Sunshine: A Guide for Your Bright & Happy Home.
If you know me, you know that I’m a sucker for old mixed with a little bit of new; I love farmhouse but I also love some industrial and Scandinavian elements, it’s a toss-up and I’ll be forever changing my style, that’s normal right!?
When it comes to the dining area, what makes you swoon over the space!?
I love a large accent light over the dining table, most likely a barn pendant with mix-matched chairs and a hardy long wooden table. I love long tables because they feel warm and welcoming, they give you lots of space to seat guests, to do homework or crafts and there’s always extra room on top of the table to display a pretty vignette! When you find a great table, you need beautiful chairs to complete the look. I absolutely love the look of modern chairs paired with an old harvest-farmhouse style table — it’s the perfect balance of old and new. Sometimes its ok to NOT buy “the matching set” but to buy the items you love.. it’s really about how you transform your home into a place that represents you (and your family), so don’t be afraid to mix things up :)
Here’s some of my favourite farmhouse inspired dining areas!

I absolutely love dark contrasting elements and a black accent wall is something I have always been attracted too (it may even be a future project in the works *wink wink). I love modernized chairs paired with an old harvest table, isn’t it just so fun and interesting!? Or how about something daring like ghost chairs, um HELLO let’s make a statement!
Which of these dining areas is your favourite?

I think the 2nd one is my favorite – with the bench on the one side! They are all really gorgeous though. I really love the distressed look of the farmhouse style.

My kids love our last bench, it was so easy for them to climb up!

So hard to choose! I think I like the third one the best, although they are all beautiful! I am pinning this to my farmhouse board!
Kassandra says
Yes!! They are all different but still have some farmhouse qualities!
